Bite Your Tongue, For Your Mom!
Hello there! It’s December 18th and we’ve almost made it to another Christmas Day. Whew!
For the mothers among us, the Christmas season is often very taxing. Most Moms want to make Christmas Eve and Christmas Day perfect- the perfect decorations, the perfect food, the perfect gifts for eveyone, and most of all- perfect harmony among all that gather.
But we know that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are often not like that. The ladies from the cleaning service I use told me yesterday that almost every home they go to contains a very stressed out woman/Mom, who feels she is behind and can never get it all done.
I do wonder what it is that drives us women to strive so hard for perfection, when the rest of the year perfection may not be a goal we strive for , and we know that in most families, there are inevitably going to be tensions among some of the family members.
I was discussing all this with a fellow life coach this morning. He is a younger fellow, who has not yet gotten married, and he was blissfully unaware of how much effort wives and mothers put in to try to produce the perfect Christmas Day. He did share that when he said to a policeman friend of his, “ Isn’t it wonderful that it’s Christmas time again- a time of peace and good will and love?- that the policeman friend shared with him that he has been called to attend many scenes on Christmas Day of stress and disharmony.
As we chatted some more, we started to feel a lot of empathy for the wives and mothers who try so hard to make Christmas Day a very special time for their families. And we came up with a Christmas Day slogan that we think could be a popular one. It’s “Bite your tongue, for your Mom.”
What do you think??
On a day when the Moms are trying so hard to give us a beautiful day, are we willing to do our best to honour their efforts by being as grateful as we can towards them for all they have done, and as kind, and generous as we can manage to be towards the other family members who are gathered, even if we do have some ongoing tension with them?
Let’s give it our best effort!
Merry Christmas to all! And may the New Year just ahead be a time of deep meaning, contentment, and fulfilment for all.
